Dear Potential Learner!

I want to start with a story about someone I know. If you think his story resonates
with your life story, you’re the right candidate to attend our training.

SWOT Analysis of Jack

  • Speaks Akha as his mother tongue, limited Burmese, and no English
  • Holds two degrees, one in Geography and one in Theology
  • Previously worked in the city as a daily laborer at a purified drinking factory as an office clerk, documenting sales of water bottles
  • Uses Facebook and Email but not professionally
  • Has attended a few trainings provided by NGOs on human rights, justice, gender equality, etc.
  • Unable to write, speak, and present well in Akha, Burmese, and English Degrees are not very useful to get a paid professional job that respects his dignity
  • Previous experiences are not adequate to get a good entry-level job at an NGO or a local company that pays a good salary
  • IT skills are limited to the use of Facebook and emai
  • No Microsoft Office Skills
  • Currently unemployed
  • Raises pigs and chickens and collects wild honey to sell in a local market
  • Owns a mobile phone, a computer, has internet access, and electricity
  • Has 6 hours per week to attend training virtually
  • Has heard of Uplift and other NGOs that may be able to provide job-readiness training
  • Internet and electricity are unpredictable

  • Lives in an unsafe area with active armed conflicts
  • No strong social connections that can guide him on employment opportunities

This may not be a perfect SWOT analysis, but it should give you a clear picture of the type of youth we want to uplift.
We’ll use the opportunities he currently has—a phone, a computer, internet, electricity, and time—to train him in basic
job-readiness skills. While we won’t be able to solve his threats because they’re beyond our and his control, we’ll give
him a solid foundation to prepare for his first professional paid job that respects his dignity. By the end of our training,
