Dear Partner!

If you’re reading this, I assume you’re interested in collaborating with us or perhaps curious
about who we are and what we do. Either way, we appreciate your interest. Meaningful
connections often start just like this.

We use the term “partner” broadly. So, whether you’re a potential donor looking to share funding information or exploring our work, you’re already part of our potential partnership. Here’s some essential information about us to help you understand what we do and why it matters:

We come from marginalized, remote, and conflict-affected areas of Myanmar. Through fortunate circumstances, we received a liberal arts education that taught us critical thinking skills. Many of us have also been educated in the West, across Europe and America. Over the past decade, we’ve gained experience in diverse industries including tourism, international development, business consulting, and civic engagement. Today, we’re leveraging this experience to give back to our community by designing basic, entry-level job readiness programs for vulnerable populations throughout Myanmar.

We collaborate closely with local stakeholders such as monasteries, churches, village leaders, youth advocates, and coordinators of refugee/IDP camps. Together, we identify youths who have never had the opportunity to work professionally—not due to lack of desire but because they lack everything needed to enter the job market. We recruit and train them in fundamental job-readiness skills. These include basic competencies like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, understanding resumes and CVs, effective email writing, and job search strategies. The disparity in Myanmar is staggering. Despite our Western education, we see hundreds of thousands of youths with minimal hope or resources to improve their circumstances. They lack proficiency in
Burmese, English, IT skills, and formal education or training. NGOs, CSOs, donors, and government institutions overlook them, leaving them in extreme poverty, earning meager wages as daily laborers with no means to start businesses. When we say they lack everything, we mean exactly that.

At Uplift, we strive to realistically provide these vulnerable youths with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to uplift their lives. Our goal is to help them secure their first paid professional job, respecting their human dignity.

It’s deeply fulfilling to know that our efforts can change lives. Imagine someone in poverty securing their first paid job because you helped them acquire the essential skills. It’s a feeling of profound satisfaction that we cherish here at Uplift.
